Congratulations to teachers at Long Field High in Melton Mowbray for picking two sharp Year 8 pupils who offered a London conference an admirably balanced view on the merits of Sats.
First up was Ashleigh Kelly, who told the great and the good of the assessment world that the tests were helpful, telling her what she needed to do to improve.
Dominic Potts, tested every year in primary school since the age of six, was less positive. “I enjoy school,” he said. “But it would be better if there were less testing.”
However, Saj Raithatha, a Long Field High teacher, may still have regretted inviting her pupils along. When the pupils were asked to what degree they were involved in helping to formulate policy, Dominic’s all too honest answer was: “Not much.”
