Great Ormond Street Children’s Hospital School is to become the country’s first grant-maintained hospital school. It is the fourth special school that has received the Education Secretary’s approval to opt out.

The London school caters for about 90 pupils, all registered patients of the Hospital for Children NHS Trust. The school published opt-out proposals last November, and will assume its new status from tomorrow.
