Sir John Betjeman would have been thrilled. Not only has St Pancras railway station in London been returned to its former splendour, but the adjacent hotel has emerged glorious after 10 years of restoration.

So it was fitting that 11-year-old Jennifer Burville-Riley, winner of this year's John Betjeman Poetry Competition for her piece Wyllow's Bridge, received her award at a ceremony held on the station last Tuesday. To read her poem, see www.betjemanpoetrycompetition.com
