What are they? Eco-Schools is an international award programme that guides schools on their sustainable journey, providing a framework to help embed these principles into the heart of school life. The programme is suitable for primary and secondary schools throughout England. Benefits include: - Saving your school money by reducing energy costs. - Providing a learning framework to help pupils understand the connections between transport, pollution and climate change. - School grounds can be improved by encouraging healthier plant life and vegetable gardens. Even a tighter policy on litter can make a difference. Where do you start? There are four steps to get you started: register your school; set up your eco-committee; conduct an environmental review; and develop an action plan. What else? The Eco-Schools website has information on many activities for becoming an eco-school.
