East Dunbartonshire, having emerged from the inspectorial slaying of its education service, is clearly going up in the world. Sue Bruce, strategic director in charge of education and much else besides, can be found hanging in Edinburgh.

Members of the Association of Directors of Education in Scotland touring the City Arts Centre may be startled to come across a photographic exhibition of a select group of professional women featuring their colleague and the other members of the council’s all-female top team - Vicki Nash, chief executive, and Valerie Watts, assistant chief executive.

It’s amazing what an HMI report can do.
