MEETING SEN IN THE CURRICULUM - ICT. By Mike North and Sally McKeown. David Fulton. pound;25

This is a useful source book: the layout and style are appealing, leading to well structured chapters which provide helpful support materials and case studies to design an effective programme.

Early chapters deal with the statutory requirement to provide ICT and develop a departmental policy.

Ways in which ICT can support the needs of specific types of SEN are explored, including appropriate teacher interventions.

A helpful chapter looks at ways in which classroom design and carefully chosen hardware can improve effectiveness. Teaching and learning styles are discussed and linked to classroom management and lesson structure. A chapter devoted to monitoring and assessment provides a useful overview.

The book is well referenced and includes helpful appendices. A rather bland but useful CD completes a worthwhile package.
