Reading, writing and refereeing

Futsal UK, national promoter of the “futsal” ball game, is collaborating with schools to offer academic scholarships to students, in which they study for a BTEC National qualification in sport. The course, equivalent to three A levels, will help students from deprived backgrounds to develop their academic abilities and sports skills.

What is it?

Futsal is an indoor version of five-a-side football. Matches can be played in the gym or sports hall with a smaller ball than standard football. It is reportedly the fastest growing indoor game, with more than 30 million players worldwide, and Futsal UK is creating 15 hard courts specifically designed for the game over the next two to three years. The BTEC will allow students to develop key academic skills while training to become professional futsal players, coaches and referees.

How to get involved

Scholarships are available for students aged 16-19. More information is available from www.futsaluk.netcontentscholarships.php.
