Rodeo drive to Texas

Street Smart Sellers, a team of young entrepreneurs from Surrey, were hailed last week as Britain’s best young traders of 2012 after defeating Team Synergy in CBBC’s Trade Your Way to the USA series.

What they did?

The team - Maddy (14), Evie (14) and Tabby (11) - battled through a number of rounds to reach the final in Texas, where they raised $427.25 (#163;264) by selling cookies at the Fort Worth Championship Rodeo. The girls had the innovative idea of creating Dallas-themed cookies, including some shaped like sheriff badges and cacti. Their designs and a catchy radio jingle helped them past the winning post.

What else?

To encourage others to follow in Street Smart Sellers’ footsteps, the BBC has launched the Trade Your Way: Schools Challenge, a set of resources supporting primary pupils in setting up their own businesses, including:

A teachers’ pack: an online toolkit of activities, lesson plans, exclusive videos and worksheets.

Schools tour: former Apprentice star Saira Khan hosts an interactive roadshow with workshops and top business advice.

Saira’s diary: top money-making tips and examples of school businesses around the country.
