A GOVERNOR requests advice about the appointment of an acting headteacher, and Joan Sallis (TES, November 15) trots out her usual line: you should obtain “the LEA’s good advice” but you should “definitely not” consult the present headteacher.
In other words, talk to the town hall bureaucrats, but on no account talk to the one person who knows best what the head’s job is all about!
May I offer my advice? Ignore Joan Sallis and, if necessary, ignore the regulations: your duty is to serve the best interests of the school and its children.
So use your common sense and consult whoever you think will give you the best advice - and I will be surprised if that does not include the present head.
