It was interesting to see the two articles illustrating the impact of hearing loss on educational achievement (TES, August 22).
Both articles illustrate that deaf and hard of hearing learners can succeed if their needs are understood and appropriate support is made available.
RNID, the largest charity representing the nine million deaf and hard of hearing people in the UK, is concerned that there is a shortage of trained professionals to provide this support.
RNID’s Headstart initiative, sponsored by Barclays, aims to overcome these difficulties and is working closely with universities and further education colleges to promote better access for deaf and hard of hearing people.
