Snapshots is a beautiful little book packed with photographs and concise accounts of how some schools and colleges have made themselves open and accessible to all. The focus is firmly on children and young people, and in many cases it is their words that tell the stories.

The book is a celebration. It doesn’t set out to provide simple answers to some of the complex problems schools face, but, by providing shining examples, it hopes to address perhaps what is the greatest barrier of all to inclusion, that of attitude. It provides examples of schools that, while operating in an education system that is obsessed with tests and examination results, have broadened their perspective for the benefit of all.

The message is clear: inclusive education is good for all pupils and essential for the development of a caring society that values all its citizens.

In the foreword, Tim Brighouse writes that “intelligence is multi-faceted rather than general, inherited and fixed”. The schools and colleges in this slim volume have turned this belief into a reality.
