Independent schools have warned they will be forced to raise fees if they are to satisfy new draft Charity Commission requirements that they provide a more substantial public benefit to poorer people. The Independent School Council and the Independent Association of Preparatory Schools are writing today to the Charity Commission to insist that they already serve the public benefit by advancing the education of children. The NUT disagreed, claiming that independents contributed to “educational and social segregation”.
