This scheme gives rebates of up to pound;3,000 to schools that carry out energy-saving measures and develop a whole-school approach to energy management.
Schools are audited to identify potential energy-saving measures and then receive 50 per cent of the cost of implementing them.
The programme is a partnership between the Energy Saving Trust, British Gas, Scottish Gas and Northern Ireland Electricity. It is also supported by STEP (Schools Turnkey Energy Programme), a service provided by the Government-funded Energy Efficiency Best Practice programme. An air pollution pack for children in key stages 1 and 2 has been published by The National Society for Clean Air and Environmental Protection.
The "What's in Your Air" pack, which contains posters and a teacher's booklet, is also full of practical activities explaining pollution and what children can do to tackle it. In early April the NSCA will distribute 1,000 free copies to schools, on request. The packs will then be available for pound;5. Call 01273 878 7700 or visit www.nsca.org.uk.
