Your article about the General Teaching Council for Wales report on teacher education was selective and potentially misleading (“Initial teacher training condemned as ‘ineffective’”, TES Cymru, 29 April). What the report said was that there are issues concerning the variable quality of some continuing professional development and the progression from initial teacher education and training (ITET) to early professional development.
The reference to ITET in the report related to the length of PGCE programmes and what can reasonably be covered in the time allowed. That is something we agree should be addressed. Evidence from the inspectorate and schools shows that ITET in Wales is relevant and of good quality.
