A-LEVEL standards are to be studied by an international panel of experts in an attempt to quash fears that the exams are getting easier.
The move by the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority comes after the pass rate went up this ummer for the 18th year in a row to 89.1 per cent. The panel, which will report at the end of 2001, will be chaired by Eva Baker, co-director of the US National Center for Research on Evaluation Standards and Student Testing.
