Parliamentary watchdogs have ordered an inquiry into the financial plight of Britain’s further education colleges, writes Ben Russell.

It will include the controversial areas of funding, governance, quality control and franchising.

Roger Ward, chief executive of the Association of Colleges, said: “We will want to highlight the imbalance of positive funding for universities and schools versus the negative funding for FE colleges. Unless there is more equitable funding there is no chance of FE colleges being able to achieve Government targets.”
