The break-up of Hadlow College has begun - with the college’s Mottingham campus having been transferred to Capel Manor College on 1 January, according to a report published by administrators DBO today. 

The report also reveals that Hadlow’s Spring Lane (Canterbury) campus and the Ashford site of West Kent and Ashford College, which was the second college placed into education administration, will be transferred to East Kent Colleges Group on 31 March.

The Hadlow campus, Princess Christian’s Farm (a SEND facility), the Greenwich site and West Kent Tonbridge campus will be transferred to North Kent College on the same date. 

Hadlow College became the first FE institution to go into administration in May 2019, after stacking up £40 million in debt amid serious concerns about the college’s former leadership. 

West Kent and Ashford College was also placed in administration in August last year. The administration of both colleges is being dealt with by DBO.  

The report confirmed that administrators had filed a confidential report to secretary of state Gavin Williamson with regard to the conduct of “relevant persons” in the three years leading up to the insolvency. It also stated that the college owed Barclays bank £5.7m in loan payments, and £8.3m to 161 “unsecured claimants”.
