The working relationship between the governors and the senior management of the school is open and staff and governors know each other well. A regular dialogue exists between the chair of governors and the headteacher, which does challenge and question.
Governors are aware of the local and national educational framework and are currently concentrating on monitoring academic standards by regular departmental reviews and annual scrutiny of GCSE results and other data. This has increased their knowledge and enabled them to meet their monitoring responsibilities. The chair of governors places importance on enabling all governors, who represent the whole community, to have the necessary skills and knowledge to enter into discussion and debate. This, combined with a review of the structure of the governing body, which set up working groups, has meant that they are effective in their support for school management."
