The Scottish Sports Council has reaffirmed its network approach to the proposed Scottish Institute of Sport, which will be the regional offshoot of the British Academy of Sport.
While 25 bids, none apparently from Scotland, are being considered to host the main academy on a greenfield site, the sports council is holding informal discussions with a number of groups interested in coming together in a geographically based arrangement.
Whether it will be “big SIS” or “little SIS” has still to be decided, although a decision is expected by next month. Lawrence Randak, the council’s senior development officer with responsibility in this area, said: “We are entering into discussions with several consortia.”
Moray House Institute held a presentation last week outlining some of the issues and Mr Randak hopes to have matters clarified by December. “There are lots of lessons to be learnt. The two music schools, Broughton High in Edinburgh and Douglas Academy in Bearsden, and the dance school at Knightswood in Glasgow have been very successful in bringing forward performers and placing them.”
