Insults to our professionalism

The call for legislation to promote greater “respect” in this country is particularly painful to many of us in education. For nearly 20 years many of us have warned that, despite intentions, successive pieces of legislation would create a surveillance culture in which teachers are no longer trusted.

When such trust is publicly stripped away then “respect” for teachers is diminished - and by the very people who want to see respect demonstrated by others.
