Integrated system works for us

In reply to Peter White's article "The awkward truth about disabled inclusion" (Another Voice, TES, December 20) I manage services for visually-impaired pupils at the Charles Dickens school, Broadstairs, a mainstream non-selective secondary.

Of the 11 pupils we support, three are Braille learners, several also have additional needs. Our school is highly inclusive; pupils with visual impairments are not separate, they go to mainstream lessons alongside their sighted peers. Here pupils with visual impairments have the "best of both worlds" - the support of the mainstream teachers who make their lessons inclusive for all learners, and access to the visual impairment support team who are sensitive to their needs.
