* If you’re buying a new laptop this year and it includes integrated wireless technology, it may well offer a high-speed wi-fi standard called (wait for it) IEEE 802.11g. The “g” standard offers data rates that are five times faster than the 802.11b system used by most existing home wireless networks. There’s double good news if your new PC has the “g” feature. First, it helps future-proof your investment and, second, “g” products are backwards-compatible with the older 802.11b standard.
