A new project should make information about special education needs easier to find on the Internet. The Government has asked BECTA, the British Educational Communications and Technology Agency, to help teachers find what they are looking for in just a few mouse clicks.
Chris Stevens, BECTA’s head of SEN and inclusion, says many teachers search for information with a specific child or problem in mind and want to know not only about resources that are available on the Internet, but also about software, paper-based materials, examples of how colleagues have coped with certain situations and about centres and organisations that might offer help.
BECTA has been working on a website that can be searched in a new way to access a smaller volume of information that is the most useful. The site will be interactive.
It is already possible to exchange thoughts and ideas via BECTA’s website, where 10 e-mail discussion groups operate.
