Trolleys laden with resources, many designed on site, are stored under the tables to be pulled out for immediate access.
The centre is more than just an abstract room packed with resources. It is designed to be a functioning maths room, with the flexibility to be used as a primary or secondary classroom.
Jim Noonan, Surrey's consultant for numeracy, said:"The room is designed to give teachers at all stages an idea of what they can do in their own space. When teachers come in here for training in approaches to the numeracy strategy, the room exudes maths."
"In the mid 1990s just half the children in Surrey were achieving Level 4 at key stage 2. That figure is now 80 per cent."
