May we clear up any misunderstandings caused by the article “Unions in search of new leaders” (TES, February 6).

The Secondary Heads Association’s general secretary, John Sutton, is to retire in August and we are appointing a replacement. The appointing panel has a very open view as to the possible replacement. This view has been supported by the association’s executive and council. There is no front runner. In fact, we have received a large number of requests for details of the post, but we have not received any firm applications yet.

We should be most concerned should anyone decide not to apply because of this article. The closing date for applications is February 18. Details on 0116 299 1122.

PETER MILLER, SHA immediate past president
