IT does not suprise me that Barbara MacGilchrist, dean of initial teacher training at London’s Institute of Education, is having difficulty finding students to fill her post-graduate certificate in education training courses (TES, October 13).

Perhaps her instiute’s course designers should step outside their ivory towers and design a flexible, part-time modular course to suit the needs of people who live in the real world.
