Schools across Scotland are to have access to free online music tuition that will help teach the guitar, bass, keyboards and drums. More than 700,000 students could benefit from the opportunity to learn a musical instrument via Glow, the Scottish schools intranet that is scheduled to be up and running by the middle of next year.

The ICT-enabled music lessons from Gigajam include easy-to-understand lesson instructions, “how to” videos with professional musicians, audio files, backing tracks, and an electronic performance assessment facility for immediate feedback that can be used to track progress.

Glow, funded by the Scottish Executive and run by Learning and Teaching Scotland with RM, will host the first five lessons for each instrument from Gigajam’s essential skills course.
