Job-dodging penalty rises steeply;In brief

YOUNG people who consistently avoid job and training opportunities under the New Deal face losing six months’ benefit rather than four weeks’. The Government will dock the money from those who refuse three times, said Education and Employment Secretary David Blunkett. The new measures are expected to come into force in the autumn.
