Jobs shortage

I was interested but saddened to read of the sorry situation of young teaching graduates (TES Magazine, April 27). As the mother of one graduate in a similar situation, I empathise. At 23, and full of enthusiasm for the profession, my daughter has studied hard to achieve a degree in primary education, hoping to get a job and willing to work hard, despite many negative comments from people about how demanding and stressful the job is.

She, too, has been unable to secure her first job in order to progress through the induction year before becoming a qualified teacher. She will soon be in her third year after graduation. Will she have to apply to the General Teaching Council for an extension to the qualifying period soon? She, and others like her, are determined to keep faithful to their dream and I applaud their tenacity. Don’t give up.
