Lynne Sedgmore, executive director of the 157 Group, says that due to its members’ inspection grades and size, the group has the capacity to “promote the whole college sector” (“Three 157 Group members are just `satisfactory’”, 1 April).

My college is not a 157 Group member, but it is large, with three sites in two counties, and has just been graded “outstanding” by Ofsted. We have always considered the Association of Colleges an excellent advocate for the sector and, to paraphrase Groucho Marx, why would I want to join a club which wants me as a member?
