THIS year’s annual conference of the Association of Teachers of Mathematics in Liverpool on April 6 is expected to be a barrel of laughs.
Delegate Nick MacKinnon will present a session entitled “The mathematics of jokes”.
“The lecture explores the structure of jokes using Venn diagrams and symmetry,” the programme promises. “It concludes with an in-depth analysis of the rat episode of Fawlty Towers.”
It adds: “The author takes this all quite seriously.”
