What has come over the Glasgow local association of the Educational Institute of Scotland? A section of the union long renowned for not recommending members for institute fellowships has gone into overdrive this year.

They have nominated not just one, not just two, not just three, but yes - FOUR candidates. Furthermore, they are all women: Glasgow EIS luminaries Marjorie Bell, May Ferries, Alana Ross and Liz Vann.

Perhaps Glasgow was forced to take action to remedy the gender imbalance caused by an overabundance of male nominees from other areas of the country. If so, anyone who has experienced the collective fire power of this formidable quartet will confirm that the balance has not only been restored but probably swung in the other direction.
