MINISTERS have confirmed that Section 2A does not apply

to independent state-funded schools such as Jordanhill in Glasgow and St Mary’s Episcopal primary in Dunblane, but covers directly funded special schools. The new legislation will cover only council-run schools.

Brian Monteith, the Tories’ education spokesman, who rised the discrepancy, said he had no problem with schools being exempt from these provisions where parents had the final say in how they are run.

But Mr Monteith accused the Education Minister of “hypocrisy” in refusing to extend the benefits of parent power beyond Jordanhill which is attended by his own children.
