Much of the stress experienced by parents of teenagers is, apparently, down to ignorance of the merits of vocational training for their children.
According to research by the Learning and Skills Council, one cause of their being “stressed out” is a lack of knowledge of what has become known as the “learning and skills sector”.
While 43 per cent of parents are concerned about their children’s prospects, according to an LSC survey, 21 per cent are unaware of the advantages of Apprenticeships. Teenagers are more aware of the joys they provide.
Stephen Gardner, the LSC’s director of apprenticeships, said: “We hope parents will take a leaf out of their children’s book and be more optimistic, especially given the opportunities for young people these days.”
