Just how do teachers spend half-term? Here are seven little insights...

The half-term break in autumn is perhaps the most anticipated of all the school holidays. Falling as it does in the middle of the longest term, with teachers getting used to new schools, new classes and new syllabi, it can’t come too soon.

To celebrate, on Monday TES Connect launched a little Twitter competition. Using the ever-popular #teachersholidaysarewelldeserved hashtag, we asked our followers to submit pictures of what the autumn half-term means to them.

Hundreds got involved, helping us paint a picture of how the greatest profession is spending its much-needed week off. Here we’ve collected a few of the best submissions. Any included below can consider themselves winners of a shiny new TES mug, the lucky things.

All too many teachers are spending their days catching up on the housework...

@goody2shoes23 some #halfterm tasks are mundane #catchinguponstuff

While others have managed to get away...

@Diane Ball This was my half term weekend #leftthebooksathome

Some are more glamorous than others, however...

The overwhelming majority are, inevitably, catching up with work...

@emzberry This has been my half term so far #nearlythere #musthavesometimeoff

While some others are still managing to find time for a little bif of fun...

@Krystyna Molony Champagne Tuesday with my mum. I’m only a student but she’s been teaching 38 years

Others teachers left us speechless...

@Boogiebeebie My teacher friend has cancer and brought round her new puppy. Kind of puts things in perspective

While others made us laugh...

@Govebuster They still get half term!

Well done everyone. Enjoy your break. It’s deserved.
