Keep it seemly

There used to be a certain decorum about these things. Some at the DFEE wrote with their congratulations to new boss David Normington. Some emailed. The more forward among them telephoned. There were attempts to shake his hand in the lift. But how desperae for preferment were the souls who tried to hug the anointed one in the street? Mr Normington is "grateful and touched".

Psychologist Dr David Lewis has a theory: "I think it was Hemingway who said, 'My psychotherapist is my typewriter.'"
