Your “Top 10 schools in Wales” (TES Cymru, December 2) disingenuously praises a relatively high-performing school in a socially deprived area.

The implication is that you realise that, as in music, being in the charts does not necessarily mean that a song is any good.

Why, therefore, print your alleged top 10? Fortunately, the headteacher of the school you praised was not born yesterday. He makes the admirable point that information needs to be pupil-centred.

The New Testament tells us that the Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath. In education, it needs to be proclaimed loudly and often that schools are made for children, not children for schools.

We do not want the misleading, dubiously entertaining, school league tables in Wales.

In a popular and educationally sound move, our democratically elected Welsh Assembly abolished them.

TES Cymru ought to think twice - and then think some more- before trying to cobble up its own “league tables” for Wales.
