A conference in Inverurie (some people get to all the best locations) on the theme of partnership heard stirring calls to arms to support young teachers through student placement, induction and beyond.

There were some warm words for the excellent working together of Aberdeen University’s education faculty and Highland Council. It was even revealed that Highland had replaced a computer keyboard which was rendered unworkable after a student’s cat had “peed all over it”.

In his closing remarks, Hamish Vernal, Aberdeenshire’s outgoing director of education and recreation, pointed out a key policy difference between the two authorities - Aberdeenshire would have replaced the cat.
