Scott: I think I'm going to audition for one of the school productions. I can't sing and dance, so I'm not going to be very successful, but that's what I'm going to try to do, `cos I always wanted to do it, but never really got round to it. I'm going to be one of the trees in the background, I think.
Euan: I think new year's resolutions are a good idea, except they never really work out for most people. They'll say they'll do something, but within a few months it's just kind of back to normal. My sister went for a chocolate thing last year; it lasted about a week.
Hollie: My brother tried to be nice to me for a year - I think it lasted maybe a day.
Scott: I think people do it in the hope it might work. One of them worked - my uncle said he would give up smoking and he managed to give it up. But then the next year he started again. He did it for the whole year, and the next year he had a different resolution. He was quite good at keeping them. My gran and grandpa - my grandpa said he would give up chocolate, my grandma said she would give up tea. They couldn't do it, so they swapped around, and they managed, because Gran doesn't like chocolate and my grandpa doesn't like tea.
Hollie: My mum always cries on New Year's Eve. When we go to my auntie's house, and then whenever we come home, my big brother is supposed to go in the house carrying a bottle of whisky or something like that, and Mum always cries every year. I don't know, it's some tradition. I don't really get it. It's just weird. Every year.
Euan: I can't see myself getting that emotional.
Scott: I think most of the time the emotion might be the alcohol talking.
Euan: My parents aren't that bad. They haven't done anything embarrassing, and I'm thankful for that.
Scott: New Year's Eve is my cousin's birthday, so my auntie cries every year because of her getting one year older. My parents are just generally embarrassing, so they don't need to change for New Year.
Euan: I think the excitement about New Year's Eve depends on where you are, really. I've been in some countries where they have the whole fireworks thing going on - it's pretty spectacular. But it depends where you are.
Scott: Since it's my cousin's birthday, we usually all get together on New Year's Eve, and that's really good. But the last couple of years that hasn't happened, and I actually kind of prefer it, because you're with your grandparents and stuff for three to four days after Christmas and before, so it's kind of better to just have your friends round.
