Matthew MacIver, top man at the General Teaching Council for Scotland, had the unenviable task of speaking after the EIS conference dinner in honour of what the union quaintly refers to as “kindred organisations” (and, on this occasion at least, the media are kindred).
But he’s no stranger to unenviable positions, revealing that he had once been confused with fellow Lewisman and EIS salaries supremo Malcolm Maciver.
One unenviable task MacIver does not have is responsibility for the financial aspects of the chartered teacher programme. But he does have a solution: “Buy one, get one free.”
