US charter school provider KIPP has been forced into a robust defence of its schools after an independent study suggested their success was due to high levels of funding and less able students dropping out. According to research, KIPP (Knowledge Is Power Programme) schools have “substantially higher” rates of attrition compared with their local school districts.

Conditional cash

The UK Government has announced pound;650 million of aid for Pakistani education, but warned it is dependent on the money being spent efficiently. The fund will be used to train 90,000 teachers, build or refurbish 8,000 schools and provide six million textbooks.

1 in 9 `groomed’

One in nine teenagers in Northern Ireland has been subject to sexual grooming and three-quarters of those were under the age of 16 at the time, according to researchers at Queen’s University and University of Ulster. They questioned 786 teenagers across Northern Ireland under the 2010 Young Life and Times (YLT) survey, an annual survey of 16-year-olds.
