School’s back, Glasgow education committee’s back and so is Chris Mason, Liberal Democrat leader, awkward customer and official opposition to Labour’s massed ranks.

Never one to miss a chance to twist the knife, Mason kicked off with a gentle barb following a presentation on the city’s major and lengthy education plan. “Testament to the excellence of this report was the stunned silence in which it was received,” he goaded.

“It’s great being in a small party. I do not give a damn who I offend, ” Mason cheerily confessed.

Local coverage of future school closures should be interesting after Mason ripped into the the Evening Times. “It has a long and dishonourable history in this,” he thundered to gasps from the arc of Labour benches.

Watch your back, Chris.
