Contributors to The TES website have had fun imagining the politician they would choose as their classroom assistant. One dreams of “St Tone” trying to deliver one of his sermons to a restless, Friday-afternoon RE class.

Another wants deputy PM John Prescott. “I’d put him in charge of the pupils most likely to wind him up,” the contributor said. “Then watch with glee as he got into punch-ups on a daily basis.”
