Landmark languages

The increasing importance of Asian languages was reflected in two landmark sets of results this year.

The first candidates to sit Higher Urdu set a high standard: 41 of 58 candidates achieved an A; 15 got a B and two received no award.

Urdu is Pakistan's national language and one of the official languages in India, and has been offered at Standard grade since 1995-96.

Access 3 Mandarin also produced its first set of results, with 21 out of 29 candidates receiving awards.
