The language teachers’ programme extends over the three days. Here is a sample of the sessions on offer:
ICT Friday 10.30am-11.15am
Free games, time-saving utilities and fun with MS Word: integrating ICT into the MFL classroom. Presented by French teacher Joe Dale of Nodehill School, Isle of Wight, this includes demonstrations of how to create interactive resources easily.
Saturday 11.45am-12.30pm and Sunday 11.45am-12.30pm
ICT in MFL. Resources which really work - the learner tools. Helen Myers, languages teacher and assistant head at the Ashcombe School, Dorking, explains uses of CD-Roms, authoring packages, video clips, and PowerPoint presentations.
Primary
Saturday 12-12.45pm
Raising the game - interactive learning for primary French. An interactive resource Petit Pont, is presented by the author Paul Rogers.
Sunday 2.15-3pm
Language-learning for the language-averse. The uses of esperanto with primary pupils as a foundation for later language learning, chaired by Professor John Wells from University College, London.
Current developments
Friday 2.15-3pm
Recognising achievement in languages - the Languages Ladder and Asset Languages. The new voluntary national recognition scheme for all ages is presented by Kate Green, of the Department for Education and Skills and Barrie Hunt of Asset Languages.
Saturday 11.45-12.30pm
CILT, the National Centre for Languages and ALL, the Association for Language Learning, present findings of the 2005 Language Trends survey with a special focus on combating student drop-out at key stage 4.
Admission to all talks is free but visitors must book a ticket when they register on the day. Check the website for last-minute alterations to the timetable, and a full list of exhibitors, language taster sessions and more.
