Last week of term is wasted

Is it any wonder travel firms encourage parents to take their children off on holiday during the last week of term, when the last week is usually such a waste of time anyway? My experience as a parent is that the last week of all three terms is filled with videos, games, etc., and is of limited educational value.

When I was a teacher in the Seventies, our head informed us that he expected normal lessons to continue up to and including the last period of the last day of term, on the grounds that the children had quite enough holiday without our adding on another three weeks, albeit in school. Quite right too.
