Leaders must reach out - someone will be there

It is long overdue for the isolation of school leaders to be recognised. Your piece articulates that very well, drawing attention to the pressures they face and the challenges of finding intellectual and emotional support without compromising their role.

Jenny Blount’s Headspace provides a fantastic opportunity for leaders to share experiences with their peers, but the contribution of a professional coach should not be overlooked. A programme of one-to-one sessions creates a “safe space” in which to talk and gain perspective, as well as time to reflect and formulate fresh approaches. This means that the school leader keeps control - but is no longer alone.
