Leading figures from the world of FE and skills have met to discuss the shortlist for the upcoming TES FE Awards 2015.

The panel of 11 judges, including college principals and leaders of FE sector bodies, gathered in London last Friday to deliberate on the nominees for the 13 award categories.

Now in their fourth year, the prestigious awards are open to anyone working in the UK FE sector.

This year three new categories were introduced, and each judge was assigned a category to present to the panel and lead discussions on.

First-time judge Bob Harrison, education adviser for Toshiba, led the judging for the award for outstanding use of technology in FE.

“The quality of the entries was a very high standard and reflects well on the sector,” he said.

“It’s obvious that providers are thinking strategically about embedding technology across all curriculum areas.

“The TES FE Awards provide some wonderful examples of all that is best and exciting in FE and skills. The organisation and rigour in the shortlisting and final selection process was very impressive.”

Returning panel member Sarah Simons, an FE lecturer and TES columnist, led discussions for the support for students award.

She said it was a “delight” to learn about the best practice and exciting projects taking place across the sector.

“Each one of the nominations were deserving of their place on the list and it was invigorating to spend the day in robust debate over aspects that each judge favoured as most valuable in relation to the awards criteria,” she said.

“At a time when there are so many challenges to overcome in our sector, a celebration of the great achievements happening every day that change the lives of our students for the better is much needed and gives us a very much appreciated boost.”

The winners will be announced at a glittering awards ceremony at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London on 27 February 2015.
