Teacher unions have condemned the Government for advertising the Assisted Places Scheme in local post offices. John Bangs, head of education at the National Union of Teachers, said it was a “thundering waste of money at a time when the Government had underfunded schools by Pounds 750m”. The 650,000 leaflets cost Pounds 50,000.
