Leeds strike threat

UNION leaders in Leeds are threatening to strike in an attempt to save the jobs of 43 staff, including 11 teachers, following a claim by the Office for Standards in Education that the council’s “no redundancy” policy is illegal.

Inspectors challenged the council’s policy of putting “surplus” staff - mostly nursery and special needs workers - in a “supernumerary pool” of temporary workers until they were redeployed elsewhere permanently.
